MOP Booms

MOP Booms are filled with genuine MOP 201 sorbent: 100% recycled, 100% biodegradable, reusable, with a pickup unrivaled in the industry. But lets tell you a secret about Booms that no-one else will tell you, even our super absorbent booms are not even close to the efficiency of loose sorbent. It only makes sense after all because you are enclosing the sorbent in a skin that will limit it's ability to expand. So we can tell you that our booms outperform the competition, and they do. We can tell you that our booms are among a very small number that can be reused, but we can't tell you exactly how much they will absorb because that is dependent upon the weather conditions the oil viscosity and the room for expansion within the boom.

Available in various sizes from 3” diameter to 8” and from 5’ to 50’ feet in length or more.  Mop Booms are made with a spun-bond skin that is virtually untearable under normal conditions. Filled with MOP 201 sorbent with a better than 30-1 pickup ratio. MOP is a cradle to cradle green sorbent safe for use on water or land.  See price list for specific pickup information.

Booms can be custom made to most any size. They completely remove oil from water. Keeps oil leaks from spreading on land or water, indoors or outdoors. Unlike polypropylene booms MOP high absorption booms can be reused by squeezing to recover the oil. Capacity will diminsh with each use but for those who are looking to maximize their investment, this is a capability worth noting.  Round booms for water and Flat Booms provide increased surface area for use on land.

Booms come in two styles: Grommet and Zip tie for lighter duty use (Termed "Socks") and Rope and Clip for heavy duty challenges (Booms).

What do you look for in purchasing Booms?

Booms are the most likely place for an unscrupulous seller to take advantage of a buyer. However, armed with a few questions, you can make sure that you are not taken.

The most important term of measure when buying booms is cost per pound of pickup. This is the only way to compare one kind of boom with another. The unscrupulous seller will try to sell you a boom based on the price per linear foot. But the pplf does not measure anything about absorption which is the principle job of a boom.

Can the boom be reused?

If reuse is possible the cost per pound of pickup will increase substantially. Don't calculate reuse into your calculations as reuse is never an absolutely sure thing. Take it into account nonetheless.

Can the Oil be recovered?

Recovery of the resource adds a profit stream to your balance sheet. This should tip the scales in favor of a boom that allows you to reuse the resource.

What are the Disposal Costs?

Unfortunately, many companies separate the responsibility for procurement from disposal. The result of this is that the procurement staffer may not consider the full costs of the product by ignoring the cost of disposal. If your procurement director comes to you and makes a recommendation that takes into account the cost of disposal, give him or her a raise today, because that person is getting you the best value for your purchase.
