MOP’s Green Credentials

The ONLY Cradle-to-Cradle Oil Spill Recovery Product on the Planet

If your bottom line is the Triple Bottom Line, MOP is the only choice for you.

Today’s conscientious businesses are aware of the triple bottom line even if they are not yet measuring it formally. The great benefit of MOP products is that they enhance every component of your triple bottom line, providing the most socially responsible and environmentally sound products at the best prices. Here are 10 characteristics that make the MOP sorbent the most sustainable oil spill product on the planet.

  1. MOP is the Most Effective Sorbent on the Market so Sorbent Consumption is Dramatically Less.
The basis of almost all spill remediation is the (ab)sorbent employed. A five-pound bag of MOP sorbent is priced at roughly the same cost as a 20lb bag of clay-based absorbent, but it will clean up four times the spilled oil. This means that the savings to a purchaser will be approximately 75% with respect to the sorbent purchased and even more relative to the cost of shipping, to say nothing of the hassle of moving 80 lbs vs 5 lbs for the same amount of cleanup for your crews. MOP’s 30 to 1 cleanup ratio (30lbs of oil is cleaned up by 1lb of MOP) is the highest in the industry.
  2. MOP is Manufactured using Green Hydroelectric Energy.
The MOP plant is co-located with a hydroelectric plant generating sufficient energy to manufacture sufficient quantities of the products and sell excess power and green credits.
  3. 95% of Oil recovered from MOP can be recaptured and reused.
Using one of MOPs solutions for reclaiming the oil in the MOP sorbent, or even a custom solution that you’ve devised, up to 95% of the oil can be recovered and recycled. A full 100% of the energy value can be recaptured.
  4. MOP can be Used to Restore Oil Contaminated Coolants and non-oil-based Liquid Manufacturing Components
If you have a machine shop or any business where oil contaminates coolants or some other non-oil agent used in the manufacturing process, we’ll save you a lot of money, headaches and trips to the hazardous waste disposal facility. Using MOP as a filter you can remove the contaminating oils from your coolant and reuse it again and again. Furthermore, you can reduce the final disposal volume of waste dramatically.
  5. MOP Employed for Oil Spill Cleanup Passes the EPA Paint Filter Test
MOP sorbent used for oil spill cleanup passes the EPA Paint Filter Test making it a solid waste under EPA guidelines. In most cases oil spills cleaned up using a clay-based, or polyproylene, sorbent must be treated as a hazardous waste.
  6. MOP is the Only Cradle-to-Cradle Green Oil Spill Remediation Product
Manufactured using green hydro-electric power from all recycled materials, MOP is the only sustainably-manufactured and created product on the market.
  7. MOP Production Employs EPA Priority Recovered Recycled Materials.
ONLY MOP’s formula employs the use of Recovered Materials. Recovered Material is the term used by the US EPA for materials that can theoretically be recycled, but for which no current market exists for the materials. The EPA has identified finding and creating markets for “Recovered Materials” among their highest priorities and has created product preference guidelines encouraging states to provide preferential treatment to products created with Recovered Materials. MOP doesn’t need preferential treatment. We offer the most effective product at the lowest cleanup costs and the only completely sustainable choice . . . but you’ll look better using MOP and that’s worthy of your consideration.
  8. MOP 301 Contains Oil Consuming Encapsulated Microbes
While we expect that workers who clean up spills are exceedingly conscientious MOP 301 has oil consuming encapsulated microbes that will consume any oil that is missed in the cleanup process. It will also speed up the process of bioremediation of the oil in a land farm. The microbes can be used in land and littoral zones effectively.
  9. MOP Recovered Waste Can be Disposed of in Land Farms and Industrial Composting•
We understand that land farms, in and of themselves, are intended to enhance bioremediation of oils,  MOP’s encapsulated microbes, released by water into their preferred nutrient (also contained in MOP) will substantially speed up the bioremediation process.
  10. MOP will Work with Your Company on Media and Message if Desired
Often we find that customers would like to issue joint news releases that recognize the step that use of MOP’s products represent in terms of their “Sustainability Profile”. If your company has a keen interest in raising your sustainability profile, MOP can help.

* Oil contaminated with PCBs or other toxins must be treated as hazardous no matter what sorbent you employ. Laws relating to the disposal of all solid and hazardous wastes vary from state to state. Be informed about your local laws before disposing of any waste.

Addendum:

Saving Wildlife

While saving wildlife may not be something immediately on your mind, you may find it worth knowing that MOP can be applied directly and safely to an animal that has been soaked in oil. Scrub the bird, otter or other animal off using the MOP sorbent and set that critter free! By the way, your hands will come out free of oil as well. This is also generally true of non-living shoreland resources like rocks. Just scrub the rock with MOP and the oil will be cleaned right off, though you’ll probably not get the satisfaction you get in watching a pelican fly away!

Negative-Carbon Bio-Energy Plants
In addition to the MOP Sorbent and MOP sorbent delivery products, MOP Environmental Solutions is in the development stage of a number of new complimentary products including our Negative-Carbon Bio-Energy Plant. The NCBE plant uses low heat pyrolysis to generate up to three different energy components (Hydrogen-based Bio-fuel, heat and electricity) and a soil amendment that will increase the productivity of soils by 200-400%. The plants are ideal for remote locations where delivery grids are limited but can be developed anywhere effectively and can be customized for a broad range of uses from single residential use to facilities up to 10MW in capacity using currently available technology. Whether these plants can be made larger is still undetermined. We are in the process of seeking funds for a pilot project employing the technology.
